Gem Mining

rough sapphire-photo grabbed

We went to ruby and sapphire mining last 2 days ago somewhere in Franklin, North Carolina. It was our first time and it was fun, tiring, and one of our family unforgettable escapades. Mining for rubies, sapphires and other stones was not that easy at all, because we have to dig our own dirt, haul and clean it good and hope for some sparkling precious stones. I was lucky to found almost 13 carats sapphire stone perfect for cutting.

I and Joe are now planning to go gem mining once again but to a different mining place because the last place admission fee was too high. We’ve found a mining place already, which is closer to mom and dad place and a lot cheaper. Wish us luck!!! Oh…I will take some photos of my uncut sapphire stones soon to show-off, so you all have an idea what it look like.

That is really cool. My friends and I want to go mining, but we live in VA and all the best places to go seem to be in NC. Does anyone know of a mine that is in VA? And what is the name of the mine you went to? Im willing to make the trip all the way down there.
